In today’s economy and today’s environment, many firms are facing a lot of fee pressure. There is downward pressure on fees, which makes engagement efficiency and process efficiency that much more important for CPA firms to address. You have to be able to get more work done in the same amount of time, with the resources that you have.
We use a Lean Six Sigma Methodology to go about improving processes within a CPA firm. I am a master black belt in Lean Six Sigma, and we have a team of CPAs that work with us, that are green belts. The number of projects they get done, whether it is tax returns or audit engagements, will go up, current period this year versus a period last year. Firms will see an immediate impact and immediate increase on their realization. They will see improvements in their throughput time, get more done with the resources that they have, and they will not have the need to hire as many, or as quickly, as other firms might be hiring. We develop the consistency and the processes, but still allow firms, and the professional service workers, and knowledge workers within the firms to have the freedom to use their professional judgment on a daily basis.
I love seeing the results of the process improvement changes that we make within the firms that we work with, look at the results, a year later, two years later, looking at their financials, and seeing the success and all the hard work that their team put in to making those changes happen, see those successes pan out, in terms of increased financial performance.
